Rather prosaic topic I will admit, but I have been trying to book my car in for its first service and in the process get an accurate quote for the work. I have three dealers all within about a 20 mile radius, one has been fairly straightforward, but their quote jumped from £420 to £630, so I tried the other two. One takes around 3 or 4 calls to get through to and after 5 days I'm still waiting for a quote, the other I have given up on telephone contact and decided to email, that was last Wednesday and I have still to get a response. I can't remember ever having this problem in the past, maybe there are just too many Audi's on the road these days but the dealer experience is way behind anything I have experienced before.

First service (18K ish) should be less than £400!

Never email a dealer, it will get lost.

Though there should be a call centre that can give an accurate quote confused

I wouldn't give up hope, my experience of dealers recently has been awful. Soon all the customers they have pissed off won't be customers any more and they will want to talk to customers and treat the properly because they are desperate.

Other advice would be to get the car off the long-life service schedule, leaving oil in an engine for this long doesn't do the engine any favours.

Finally got a response, my car has done 18k and the service cost is £420, but will need final drive gearbox oil and an air filter in 2000 miles, so they suggest doing it now which makes sense, but the oil is £170 and the filter over £150! I might get these bits done by a trusted independent if they're significantly cheaper, just waiting for a quote. I agree on the oil change on long life schedules, but my view is that the manufacturer should know best and though you may think it's a little selfish of me, I never keep a car beyond 3 years old (except for our beloved Mini) so what happens thereafter is not my problem. If I was intending to keep the car for a few years I would've changed the oil before now, though not at the dealer!!

There's been at least a couple of threads on this recently - one saying the waiting time if he wanted a courtesy car was very extended. I think the other one was just moaning about how expensive what is basically an oil change was.

I've said it in every other service thread ask for quotes supplying your own oil. Audi charge crazy money to supply oil you can buy on eBay for £6/l. My RS4 first and second services combined came to less than £500 I think

This simply isn't true. Mine has been on long life from new, is now up to 107k without issue!

OP try a good local indie if you have one. Mine A4 is due its next service around January, it's a major one with a camblet and water pump, all in £340 inc vat includes parts and labor (parts are genuine from TPS)
