To MOT at stealer or not?!
Discussion
Hi, So the MOT on my S5 is due and I'm curious as to get it done from a main Audi dealer or in independent. As it stands all my servicing and mots have been done through the main dealer but now thinking to take it to an indi. Will this make the car less desirable in anyway for resale or affect resale value without the Audi mot paperwork?!

If you have had a previous MOT done at a dealer you qualify for the £750 MOT protection for subsequent MOTs for what that's worth.
I had a similar thing on my Merc, although it was an Inchcape dealer group offer, rather than the manufacturer. I always felt it made passing a bit more certain!bladerrw said:

This is certainly worth the extra effort of taking it to the dealer (for me the dealer is 15 miles further than the nearest MOT station); a couple of years back my A3 needed considerable parts to pass the MOT; rear spring, front steering linkages, gaiters etc. price came to over £400 of parts, albeit at dealer prices, but it was all done under the MOT warranty.Plus the VOSA rate is the same as other MOT stations (well maybe a tad more as some will discount) and they gave me a courtesy car for the duration, which in the end turned out to be 4 days as the MOT was on Friday and they didn't get the parts until Monday.

So I guess if you have an annual service and MOT,the tactic is to get the MOT done just before a service? Otherwise if you do it the other way round, the dealer is going to want to fix all that stuff at your cost?
Must be quite a dilemma for the dealer when they try and scam you into having all sorts of work done, yet it passed the MOT.As mentioned above MOT protection is provided when MOT'd at the dealer, I always had my S5 MOTd there.
It also IMO looked more attractive to a buyer when I eventually moved it on, FASH, MOT at Audi etc.
Everyone has different priorities but I preferred the dealer route especially as it was a S5.

MOT is an MOT.
As said above if you want the MOT protection it may be beneficial.
For what good it would do... most of it's just bushes and I'm sure bushses are classed as wear and tear....
I always felt it was a good thing having the Merc MOT'd at the dealer as people would know it had been done thoroughly. However they subbed out the last one as their rig was down so they broke the continuity anyway.
The Audi warranty looks similar, if not the same, as the Inchcape one. It covers pretty well everything apart from routine consumables such as bulbs, tyres and brake pads & discs. However the reality is that stuff has to be pretty bad to fail an MOT and if you get an advisory and the dealer recommends repair (which of course they will) you have to get it done at your own expense.

I took my old S5 to Audi earlier in the year for an MOT and they just outsourced it to a local garage round the corner! Bit annoying as I paid Audi full price but if I'd taken it to the other place myself would've been cheaper.
They done this with mine too.Actually with the last MOT I had done on the A3 at Audi, there was some discussion re. the warranty as the car was over 10yrs old when it was done and the smallprint states only up to 10 yrs old, however when I booked it in they told me it was covered as I had it done there the year before.
There were then a few minor things that needed doing which they wanted to charge me for but after explaining that I only took it there for the warranty and that I could have saved a few quid elsewhere on the MOT price, they not only did the repairs FOC but also matched the cheaper MOT price from the local garage.
This good customer service (along with the goodwill I got on the camchain tensioner fail when out of warranty) means my S4 will be going to them for both servicing and MOT...
Had the same positive experience at Audi main dealer.
My A3 failed its MOT on a broken rear spring. The service person said they would replace it under the £750 MOT warranty, I said I would prefer both rear springs done, sorry not covered. They said as it was late in the day could I leave the car overnight and they would give me a lift home (no courtesy cars available) and deliver the car to me next morning, about 10 miles. I agreed, I was home maybe five minutes when I got a call to say they were replacing both springs as a goodwill gesture.
Car returned next morning by nice chap, who had another car and driver with him to get him back. I looked underneath at the two new shiny springs. Cost = £54 for Mot, no more to pay.
Yes I did get my servicing done there, but price matched the local independent.
