Hoping someone kind here can check my car's service history. I had it serviced when I bought it (at 3k miles) apparently, but I am just concerned they haven't done something right (they haven't been great so far, as a dealer).

Normally I'd not have to ask, but Audi have moved to this new digital service record, so I have no book at all.

Anyone able to do so? Virtual or physical beers will be sorted out!

What exactly do you think they'll do at 3000 miles? What did they charge you for?

Well, they (apparently) undertook an oil service, as it was approaching 10 months old, and would have required it in 2 months' time. I just want to check that they recorded it correctly, as otherwise it means I really need to get it serviced.

ETA: I see you edited your post. They didn't charge me (apart from the small charge for buying the car itself, of course).

I won't just ask Alex about this, but there's another question as well. My car was (incorrectly) set to the fixed service plan (9,000 miles / 1 year) rather than the variable (up to 19,000 miles / 2 years). In order to get this changed, my local dealer have told me I have to service the car. My supplying dealer (naturally) have said I don't have to do this. (They have also told me to just reset the oil service whenever I fancy, so not entirely sure they can be trusted)

What is the Audi approved approach to this? If it needs servicing (particularly as I've done 3,000 miles since, so want to ensure I maintain a proper history, not just reset the light), then I'll make sure my supplying dealer do this / contribute to the cost, given it was their mistake.

To provide a fuller picture, just in case it helps:

- Bought the car at 10 months old, with 3000 on the clock
- It's now about 14 months old, with 6000 on the clock
- It'll be due the (fixed) 19,000 / 2 year inspection service in (obviously) 10 months' time

The way I'm thinking is that I either get another oil service done now, switch over to flexible, and undertake both the oil and inspection at the same time in 10 months' time; or alternatively if it can be switched to flexible anyway without a service, also do the same in 10 months' time.

Different oil on the long life service AFAIK, so you shouldn't just reset the service indicatorr.

Only on petrols, diesels use long life oil whether it's on long life or not

So do petrols as it's more expensive for dealers' to order in none long life oil.

I don't know if Audi would be the same as VW but with VW the cars come out of the factory set for variable servicing. If the car is a retail sale then it's changed at PDI to fixed interval servicing unless specifically requested not to be.

However most retail car have a 2-3yrs service plan and it's a stipulation of the plan that the car is on fixed interval.

If the car is leased (even PCH) then it's left on variable.

I would just service it.. 19k is a long time between service, even if manufacturers say it's OK.

10k is my limit unless you LITERALLY drive on motorways all the time. So many town cars get stuck on the long-life servicing. No thanks.

Quite likely but officially the manual states petrols should use different oil to longlife if on fixed

Well, it's kind of the other way around really. Fixed can use cheaper oil, variable uses the super-duper stuff. But there's obviously no reason why fixed can't use the super-duper oil.

Lots of people say they use the same oil in everything but I've seen dealer mechanics say they keep a range of oil and they do use the appropriate one.

There is a high chance it is still dealer specific. I have one Audi on Long Life and one on Annual and they used to order in regular oil for the latter (needs 6 litres) but we have now agreed to give up as its cheaper for them to use long life oil from - what I presume - is a big tank.

Can anyone confirm whether dealers use Quantum LongLife III for the long life servicing?

Must be a recent thing then. We bought a 62 plate seat ibiza 2.0tdi new, and requested it be on long life servicing. The dealer had to remove the oil and replace it with longlife oil.

Some dealers use Shell Ultra products others Castrol Edge and some Quantum Longlife. As long as it meets VW504.00 / VW507.00 specification it can support longlife service intervals. Dealers use what they can get the best bulk deal on at the time.

I know this happens. I also know that due to this. 2 customers will pay different amounts for the exact same quantity of oil.

And that before you get into a dealer not supplying Castrol as recommended by Audi. (but a cheaper "equivalent")

I paid £18 for 5 litres of Quantum LLIII when buying multiples of four from TPS a few months ago. Dealers must get it even cheaper.

Not cheaper by much; the Quantum gear on offer is cheap cheap.

Dealers won't reset either counter without actually doing the work to need it. If you really want it changed get an oil and inspection done at 18 and switch it then.
