Looking to treat myself to a newer daily drive,i do around 120 a day round trip to work at the mo,looking at prices a nice mk6 with leather is 10k upwards with some miles on,mk7 aren't a lot more with fleet miles albeit without leather,a little surprised at how close pricing is,is the mk6 deemed a better car or just over valued?
I fancy the DSG is it giving issues?
Any general issues to look for?
Do DSG cope with re map?

Looking at values the mk6 seems a tad optimistic for the miley cars and unless good spec don't appear to actually sell?

Any info will be gladly received chaps

Failing that I will just get another A4

I'd defo go for the mk7.

The adaptive cruise control doing them miles will be very useful

As much as a love my mk6 I think some of the prices dealers are charging are outrageous at he minute. 13-14k for 11-61 plate cars with low miles? I only paid 16750 for an 11 plate with 20k on the clock and 6 months remaining warranty and that was in 2013. The mk7 is a better car if you can live without leather (or wait for a leather car to come along)

I have a MK7, albeit 1.4 ACT petrol, and the adaptive is a game changer if you do any miles on bigger roads. Of my 45k miles I've done well over half without touching the pedals, it's not perfect but with DSG it makes big miles far more comfortable.

Mk7 is a step up from the Mk6 for sure.
Mk6 is basically a Mk5 with a different interior.

DSG is fine with a remap. Take it to an actual tuner if you're going to map them. Many people just use generic flash-and-go specials.

I also considered a mk6 GTD but the prices were too high, and anything with desirable options or low miles was silly money.

I can't stretch to a mk7 GTD so I'm looking at Leon 184 FR's.

So im not alone in thinking the mk6 is silly money, interesting comments regarding adaptive cruise as its not domething that had even crossed my mind. Mk7 is a stretch tho as a second car 😬 Any other possible solutions? Like A4 but often only me in it,considered bmw as thrre 2.0tdi is a good engine.

I've been running a 2015 Mk7 GTD DSG for the past 18-months/ 36k miles. I got it as I was up until very recently doing a long commute of 95 miles a day. The adaptive cruise has been excellent for motorway driving and makes things a lot more relaxing. I've averaged about 48mpg overall in that time and regularly seen into the 50s.

Main dislikes would be the poor grip from standing starts and the small 50l fuel tank (Mk6 was 55l). Oh and the depreciation is insane, list price new £29k and now only worth £15-16k as a trade in.

Before this I was running a 2011 Mk6 2.0 TDI 140 DSG, which I sold with 105k miles. The Mk7 has been a big step up for comfort, performance and technology. So definitely the one to go for!

Thanks for that, seems I'm about right in my assessment of the market,I think I need to try this adaptive cruise, how did the mk6 fair in real world mpg? Grrr for 12k for a top spec mk6 I think I'd rather have a leggy a4 black edition

Oh yeah that's another difference, the Mk6 used to report much higher MPG on the screen (late 50s often) but when you calculate the real MPG it's pretty much the same as the Mk7. So they presumably made the computer more accurate

Adaptive cruise + DSG is fantastic for comfort on longer journeys.

Not just the motorway either, it's particularly useful when traffic is heavy and you are just plodding along in a snaking column of cars. Far less stressful and wearing than having to continually modulate your speed manually.
