Help: Suggestions/Thoughts please - Audi TT 3.2 DSG
Discussion
Hi guys.
So as the title implies, I have a 2005 reg Audi TT 3.2 DSG.
I went to start the car the other night (doesn't get used much so a flat battery is always a risk). However when it fired up the engine/car seemed very rough. I opened the bonnet and could physically see the engine moving a lot more than usual. The engine management light was also illuminated on the dash.
One more thing to note, the car had a service done about a month ago. When changing the plugs my guy told me a few of the coils were pretty rusty. Possibly from when the car has been sitting around a lot and some water or condensation has got onto the top of the engine and dripped into the plug holes... Is this likely/possible??
He told me they may need replacing at some point. I guess now could be that point?
Anyway the car is booked in with him for Tuesday for a diagnostic and fix. Assuming this is the problem.
Is there anything else I could be looking out for?
Cheers.

I had a 2004 A3, 3.2. Never had any coil problems but during a service at an Audi dealer about 3 years ago (so well out of warranty) they swapped all the coils FOC, said it was an Audi recall.
Don't know if they do it to all cars or just those serviced by Audi though?
Otherwise, I had similar symptoms to you (I thought it might have been a coil or two at the time) that turned out to be a failed camchain tensioner which, unfortunately is a bigger job and although mine was done under 'goodwill' with a service they originally quoted me £1600+ for the job.
Good luck.

I hope it's not a tensioner, that would be annoying. The car has only done 40k miles though and has been maintained perfectly so I think that would be unlikely.
I've heard about the coil recall, trying to find out whether my car is under this or not. Although it's a 2005 reg and from what I've seen it seems to be mostly 2000-2003 cars

Mine was around 40k miles/5yrs old at the time, full Audi service history. Hopefully yours is just the coils (a coil?) though.DanSkoda said:
If you message me the chassis number I can see if it is due the coilpack workshop campaign.
Very kind of you. I don't have it to hand but will do when I can get it.Although, I have spoken to Audi UK and given them the Reg of the car, they say they cannot tell if it's one of the vehicles affected as it hasn't been registered on their system.....
Will this be the same for you? Or is having the chassis number much better than reg?
Also is this check certain? Or is there a chance the car could still have the affected parts even if the Audi system says it's not one of the ones affected.

Chassis number will definitely flag up if it's due. It could still be a coilpack that's required to sort the issues you're experiencing, but if your vehicle is not affected by the workshop campaign you'll not be able to get free coilpacks.
Of course yeah. The car was booked in with my local mechanic for an MOT and coilpack replacements next week anyway.
I've only heard about the coil pack issues today, so was hoping I might get them free. Bonus if so, no worse off if not.
If not I may even order some from Audi and fit myself. I just ideally need someone like my mechanic to plug it in and confirm what coil or coil is f
ked and how many I need to order. Or whether to just do all 6.My 2006 R32 (same engine), two coil packs failed within a few weeks because the extender section down to the plugs had fractured and broke in half. Replaced all six and later found out there was free replacement so got a refund from VW.
If you are curious you could pull them out and check for that.
