My wifes A6 avant 2.0tdi has been exhibiting the usual electrical gremlins. Why is that all older audis have this issue? Warning lights and beeps to scare you whilst driving.
In the past I realised that the battery might be to blame. The engine starting was a little slow - although this seemed to be related to the "Press clutch when starting car" annoying message. I changed the battery to a Bosch S4 silver - ECP £99.99 - nice.

Most messages have now gone. The little yellow car with skiddy wheels ECP or whatever its called today was on, but went off after a few miles of driving. But one annoying message still comes up.

"Daytime driving light/sidelight bulb left side" - this is curious as her car doesnt have daytime running lights being a 57 plate and all the bulbs are working fine.

I am due to borrow a cable and VCDS (Vag com) over the weekend to reset the codes, but has anyone had this before and how did you get rid?

I need brownie points as i spent £100 on the battery and want to show it was what was needed :-)

Sounds like a dirty connection in the CAN system somewhere. Enjoy looking for that......... smile Yes, have had it before, intermittent non start that Audi failed to find 3 times. (Dirty ABS module connector)

I'd check the headlamp multiway connectors, likely you'll find that the earth pin has corroded\arced. I had a similar problem with the taillights throwing random errors despite all working fine, and that was the fault there. (The bulb fail system works by detecting high resistance.)

Bit of wet+dry then glassfibre pencil action and all was well.

57 should have DRL all C6's do, just it is off a bulb rather than the LEDs. They can be turned off in the MMI car menu.

You'll have a sidelight bulb out most likely, note they are a pig to get at.

The ESP light is on because of the battery being disconnected.

When you do the fault code read, check for Quiescent current faults, if you get stage 3/4 or higher something is not switching off correctly and draining your battery.

Also when the battery was changed was it coded? This will cause all sorts of electrical issues if it's not.

Thanks - Are you sure that the car has DRLs?
I have auto lights, but if its bright enough outside they dont come on. I have checked sidelights, headlights, beam and none of the bulbs are out.

I changed the battery from a varta to a Bosch - strangely the clock etc didnt reset when i changed it over.

Coding a battery? What does that mean?
