Quite surprised to see that my 6 month old Audi S8 mists up really heavily on cold and wet mornings. Takes a lot longer to clear the mist than it takes to clear the ice. Often gets a lot worse if i get in it, even with full demisters on. It's so bad that I have seen condensation running down the inside of the windscreen.

Surely new cars shouldn't do that?! I've hardly seen that on any cars I've owned, even the older ones. Is it a fault? Maybe a seal is broken somewhere?

If I could actually ring a dealer and speak to a service guy rather than only be able to ring a central number to these contact centre gonks then i might actually be able to work out whether it is genuinely worth booking it in to get looked at. It sounds like it could very well be the sort of fault where they take my car for 3 days, use a high tech test such as a hosepipe and the sales manager driving it home at 130mph every night and then they give it back to me with a cursory "dunno mate" only for me to find the average MPG now shows 5.2.

You might be able to tell I don't really want to take it in to a dealer unless i know it's a fault!!

Ideas?

Sorry to hear about the problems. I've got nothing to add except I've had a 2011 D4 for a year now and never had any condensation problems.

Consolation I suppose is that it's the top of the range of the A8's so hopefully you'll get looked after properly by whichever dealer you choose to visit.

Ps, have you seen his much the S8 Plus have dropped! Circa £75k for a year old model with minimal miles!

There must be something wrong there!
Had two A8's in the last three years and they do not mist up at all.

In the olden days your problems were caused by corroded heater matrixs that would let moisture into the cabin but think that is unlikely on your car (although saying that my 2014 A8 4.0 Tfsi lost all heat to the cabin last month, which was nice!)
I would throw it in to the stealer if I were you.
Water in some form is finding its way in to either the car or the HVAC system.

cheers for the responses. I've tweeted audi customer care and they've agreed to get a technician to call me back so hopefully that will happen today. Does sound like it's worth booking it in though.

On the S8+ dropping... well i think both the models drop like a stone! I've had mine 8 months and i think it's now worth about £25-30k less than full retail. You'd have to be insane to buy one of these cash unless you got a 25% discount or something.

At a guess you have water in your HVAC piping. Possibly a blocked drainage channel somewhere causing an overflow. Had exactly this on my D2.

Please keep us updated, the Mrs complains that her 2015 A5 does this too.

Probably a stupid point, but is the aircon set to recirculate the air?

One of my old cars steamed up like a goodun, until we realised it was set to recirculate.

i am hoping it isn't a dodgy seal somewhere as that can be an utter bd / impossible to locate.

Mine S8 is doing fine, no such issues. I'm just trying to book it for door sill issue. One of the sills wasn't properly glued to body when it came new and in winter it must have changed the shape and now I hear traffic/wind noise. It feels like door is not properly closed.

So far I managed to book appointment in Crawley but I have to wait 2 weeks for courtesy car available. Unfortunately they are in the middle of nowhere, so can't do without one. Coulsdon told me the earliest date is in 4 weeks, Epsom similar. I didn't realise Audi is so busy. My local Mercedes usually have appointments in 2-3 days if you don't need courtesy car.

having had mine for a bit, I am not convinced they have a build quality worthy of the price tag. They probably just follow the same process as the low end ones so it's not much of a surprise really. Grates more, the more you pay though.

I'm on my second A5, the previous one used to steam up like hell and take ages to clear, this one isn't as bad but they are both worse than any other car I've owned.

I don't have an A8 or even an Audi, but it is from the same group (VW Golf, owned since new) and I've been experiencing exactly the same from mine (64 plate) for the last 6 months or so. I took it in to the dealer a couple of weeks ago because of some engine lights that came on and whilst it was on they identified that the wheel well in the boot and the back seats were both full of water which explained the misting up!

Apparently there are a couple of valves that let air in/out when you close the doors as modern cars are so enclosed that they have to build this in, and these were missing something that had been letting water in, probably ever since it left the factory.

I'd never noticed anything as only the kids ever sit in the back and on boosters so they wouldn't ever have noticed the seats being damp, but apparently they were sodden through. Special order part hence why it's back in today to have the boot liner and the rear seats replaced, all under warranty.

Not necessarily your problem, but shows how it really could be anything!

cheers, i went in to the dealer in the end as i couldn't speak to anyone vaguely useful on the phone... i did speak to a service adviser who was very polite and useful and it's now booked in in 10 days or so.
