A3 2.0 TFSi Sportback, 2007ish - any pitfalls to watch for?
Discussion
Hi all, we're looking at replacing my fiance's car in about 3 months or so, and the A3 Sportback with the 2.0 TFSi engine looks like a good option for practical but comfy and reasonably quick family transport.
Just wondering if there are any major issues or common problems to look out for with these cars? Our £4k budget means that we'll be looking at cars built around 2007 to 2009. I'll be avoiding S-Line trim due to the hard suspension, and if possible I'd like to go for an automatic version, assuming the auto 'boxes aren't ticking time bombs of expensive failure.
Any advice much appreciated

The autos of that era will be the early dsg boxes which generally are ok as long as they have had the correct oil changes (4 years or 40k) but if they do go faulty are very expensive.
Of that era pcvs and breather pipes can fail causing the car to run badly, stall and smoke. The parts are fairly cheap but something to look out for. Also cambelts need doing every 4-5 years or 60-80k so make sure it's been done. Some cars should have had it done twice now
