Hi all,

My first post on here...

I'm looking to lease a new Audi TT Roadster 1.8 sport. The price I've managed to get is for £308 per month with 6 months upfront (6+35), 3 years total, 9000miles pa, Metallic paint and Audi Sound system added options included in price.

Is this a good deal? Advised that the service plan is not needed as I'm likely to only need 2 services throughout the entire lease. This is purely an over the phone deal as the dealership is located 4 hours from me (200+) miles.

The salesman said he is holding a build slot and that I need to make a decision within the next 24 hours (not a fan of the pressure but hey ho it's much cheaper than local dealerships).

I currently pay £245.57 monthly for a 1.2 VW polo on PCP (young guy buying his first new car and mistakes were clearly made!).

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

Cant comment on if that lease is any good, but salesmen will always set deadlines, ignore them, theyre just trying to rush you into making a deal and make sure you take your time and get the best deal. Have you searched the lease sights to see what else is out there?

I use a site called whatcar to search all the deals out there and this came in the cheapest so I think I've found a good price just looking for some confirmation.
Over 27000 miles would it be almost certain to only have 2 services? Also does anyone know the rough cost of these?

Sorry I'm a newbie with these things and it's one hell of a commitment!

Make sure you check what the excess mileage is (usually 7p/mile on VWFS leases, but could be 20-30p!).

Are your circumstances likely to change? You won't be able to hand it back and stop paying. You're committing to paying almost £13k over 3 years. I don't want to be "that guy" - but it's a lot of cash to lease a car at 23(?), but then "YOLO"! Your money, your choice. I'd definitely look at 2 year leases though - to cut servicing / tyre costs, commit yourself for less time, and means you can move to the next car sooner!

Servicing, depends on what type of journeys (lots of short journeys will shorten the service interval, you're probably looking at 1 service in 27k miles, but could be 2).

I would suggest you post this same question on the bargain lease deal thread and see if you get any help. The guys on there usually tend to know what is a sensible deal and what isn't. Before you post it however, just double check and make sure that it is a lease and not a personal contract plan. With a Lease you are signed in and fully committed for the full three years, it's very hard to get out of a lease if you change your mind or your circumstances change without having to pay something crazy like 50% of the remaining payments.
Excess mileage for lease deals for vw/Audi seems to be more like 13p per mile plus VAT, or more if you have a maintenance contract as well.

My only comment would be a three-year deal sounds like quite a long time to be signed up, but guess it depends on what you're used to and how often you generally like to change hands.

Thanks for the help guys, it's definitely a personal lease (personal contract hire). 11p per excess mile I think. The reason I wouldn't go for 2 years is because the price shoots up a fair bit. I'm turning 23 next month and just have a feeling that this would be the best time to own such a car. By the time it arrived my monthly salary will be around £1470 after tax and pension contributions so it's not a huge chunk (please tell me if you think otherwise!).

I'll also post it in the other thread as suggested and monitor both.

You wouldn't own it wink

I'm not wanting to know - but what is your living situation? At home with parents? (I'm making that assumption based on you being willing to pay 25% of your net income on a car lease, and not mentioning that you have a mortgage/rent to pay)

Wouldn't you rather be sticking that £350/month into a deposit for a house or something? Look at the bigger picture. You might be able to afford the lease now, but what is it costing you in the long term? 3 years of not saving for a house MIGHT put you 4/5 years back on any house-buying plans (with house price inflation etc), 4/5 more years of living at home, for what? To rent a car.

Maybe it's just me (sorry) - I can't live like that. Putting yourself in a position where a large part of your net income is going on a car loan when you're young is (to me) silly.

As before, your money / your choice, but I think there's better choices could be made.

Tigger1, thanks for the comment and I actually completely agree with you. However I'm still putting £500 a month into my savings at the moment + whatever is left at the end of the month (usually an extra £100-150 if nothing exciting happens that month) and pay £130 rent to my mum. I already have a big chunk going out on a car payment which my upcoming pay rise would cover the increase to £300 + more. I'd get another one next April too.

Unfortunately, I do need a consistently reliable car for my job which is why I push for new quite a bit (I know new cars can still be bought cheaper). I love having a nice car and don't ever look at it as a waste despite my current one obviously being so! Each to their own with car spending %'s I guess. Also it would be 20% of net + my fuel is paid for at roughly £80 a month so another saving there smile.

Look's like I'm going to get the £240 6+23 deal anyway and add a couple extras on.

Off to the leasing thread with you then, if you think the man-maths works out!

Options on a lease are normally a very expensive way to go. Often better off getting a higher spec car that comes with the options you want - on a lease you'll pay 100% of the cost of most extras over the cost of the lease (compared with ~25% of the cost of the car), if you see what I mean?

There's plenty of decently quick nice cars that you can have for less money, but I'm a boring old bd wink
