Caddy engine knocking

My 2010 Volkswagen caddy engine is knocking.
The is a SDi none turbo in there at the moment,but I want to upgrade
It to a tdi,possibly a golf 170 bhp.
Has anyone done this before and could give me some advice on this.
Like will my gearbox be ok,what other bits and pieces I would need,
Intercooler,Exhaust ,ecu wiring etc.........

Information: I've no idea.

Advice: Buy a caddy (or another van) with an engine you want in it. Sounds like a major PITA to swap everything, whatever "everything" turns out to be. And insurance.
