Poor radio signal reception on Navigation Plus

Anyone else had this problem?

The radio signal is awful on our 2007 S3, it has the Navigation Plus head unit. I've checked the connections at the back of the head unit and the roof aerial fixings / connections too.
The head unit only ever shows that approx. 60% of the radio stations listed are available, on a clear the day it will list a few more!
