Audi B7 RS4 Avant manual
Discussion
Right at the top of this forum, ahve a wee peak here "PistonHeads Buying Guides: VAG Index" - buying guide in there with long thread attached.
Have a good read through some of the topics on this subject on here also; it's discussed quite often and in some detail but some areas for you to hold in mind:
Seats
Coking
Inlet manifolds
Cats
Exhaust valves
Discs
Suspension
Oil coolers
Radiators
Oil consumption
Clutches
They are wonderful but high maintenance cars and need regular dips into the wallet to keep at their very best. A rough one will give you a £5k+ bill the first time you take it near a dealer/specialist.

In the last month, my boss has replaced discs/pads to the tune of £850 before even having the work done.
Also, he's had 4 x Pilot Sport 4S tyres fitted too, that's another £800. Arguably there are cheaper tyres available, but such a car does warrant the best rubber IMO.
Also had problems with oil coolers too and a xenon bulb, can't remember exactly.
An expensive daily to run long term! Super pretty though and sound great on start up!

Broadly standard running costs for a high performance car (not sure how the brakes have cost him 850 quid before having the work done? Regardless each end should be around that mark to have done give or take). This is a 60k car, not a 20k one and the running costs are commensurate. Also, he's had 4 x Pilot Sport 4S tyres fitted too, that's another £800. OP - RS246.com is the place to go for in depth info once you're read up on here. NB the B7 RS4 was only available in manual.
If you/your son have specific questions, can happily answer. Great cars.

Do a quick search on eBay for genuine Audi parts. You'll see Stoke Audi (AudiinStoke) have front discs at 636 and pads at 288.+1 for RS246 - he's always on there.
I might as well chime in, as this is my current daily...
I'd definitely agree with other posters- to find out more about the car, go to the forum on rs246.com. Loads of info.
Running costs can be a lot, and of course the 4.2l V8 likes a drink; but mine hasn't cost me anything more than 2 annual services since I've owned it (bought Sept 2014)- but it did have new brake discs and pads prior to my purchase.
The B7 RS4s are 10-11 years old now; so it's all about condition. Find one that has been looked after properly. I don't think mileage is too much of an issue- buy on condition!
