Hi, I am thinking of getting a 2006 Golf GT TDI 2.0 litre 140. It has done 145k miles. I am just wondering if there are any common issues with these especially considering the high mileage that should make me avoid it? The car is coming with a full service history and it looks like it has been well maintained. It had its cambelt and waterpump changed at 135k and it has had its egr valve cleaned out and the hosing replaced on the turbo. I drive around 80 miles a day mainly motorway miles. I am getting it for £1,800. Should I go for this or not?

Oh not this again. It's an £1800 Golf, not an S Class. 145K is not 'high mileage' anymore. It's average mileage.

Sad times when people need a million endorsements from complete strangers before they'll commit to anything.

What if it's the best Golf available for the money, and everyone on here says "NOOOO, don't do it!!!", you would take our word for it and buy something else, despite none of us seeing the car in the flesh?

All of the MK5 Golf's common gotchas are detailed online across dozens of forums. All it takes is a bit of Googling. Google is free access to a gigantic library. I suggest you use it.

I don't have a huge lot of experience with buying second hand cars so thought I'd ask on here, sorry it bothered you so much.

harsh way to treat a new forum member, usual apply, check for history and buy on condition, take someone with you who knows about cars
