I'm looking to put a 4.2 V8 FSI (BVJ/BAR/CAU engine from a S5/A6/A8/Q7/Touareg) into a standalone application.

Using the factory ECU could in theory work well, but a bit daunting dealing with all the error codes etc.

Complete new ECU to support FSI on a V8 is mega money (think it's only MOTEC that actually does it). Don't really want to go there if I can help it.

Does anyone have recommendations on how to run these using individual throttle bodies? I'd then plug the direct injection holes and use a standalone ECU and port injection.

Thoughts and comments appreciated.

If its into a Golf or other small car then thats pretty cool. If not, just buy a faster car.

The car will be a <900kg kit called a Factory Five 818. Is that small enough? hehe

I'd be inclined to use an earlier Audi 4.2, like an ABH or ABZ.

No worrying about FSI, plenty of aftermarket support for them (you can get solid lifter conversions for the ABH for applications over 7,500RPM) and they've been ITB'd before. One company whose name escapes me used to do versions of the ABZ for the Ultima GTR chassis, ranging from 350-450-odd BHP.

There was a good few years ago an RS4 motor for sale, running on ITBS with FSI blanked/deleted, and an accompanying video of the engine running on a stand. I cannot for the life of me find any mentions of it but think it was possibly on an Ultima forum (or with mention that it had been destined for an Ultima).

This fellow appears to have tried to do similar:

There are a few mentions around of Syvecs offering ECUs that will talk to FSI motors.

This is a (bad) video on an Audi V10 running on throttle bodies:

The V10 is of a very similar architecture to the V8.
