B8 S4 mechatronic unit
Discussion
Hi,
I've just found out from my audi local dealer that mechatronic in by s tronic gear box was replaced at 40k prior to my ownership and the car is now on 70k. Also would the mechanic unit have been the updated and fault free revised unit?
When the unit was replaced by Audi would the gear box oil of been replaced at the same time as there is no record of this in the service history log? Note that I found out the mechanic unit was replaced by asking the dealer to confirm what warranty work has been carried out to the car prior to my ownership, I bought the car from a private garage two years ago.
I'm looking to get the MRC stage two next month so I want to make sure I've got a sound card before I modify!

I replaced the my have unit in my 3.2 A3, and I had to drain the oil first as it would have just spilled out the front of the box where the unit is. I used new oil and would hope anyone would, although the failure of the unit has nothing to do with the oil and could be argued it's not necessary.
My fault was a couple of electrical bits on the board and it worked perfect ever since. Only replaced the mecha once it got to 120k miles mind!
If your unsure just get an indie to do an oil change. It needs a special pump to put it in.
HTH.

Can you get the part number from the dealer who told you it had been replaced and then check it against what you think is the revised unit?
I don't have the latest part number so cant help, but if it failed at 40k previously, you'd hope they put a newer version in it. Likewise I cant believe they'd take the oil out and not put new stuff in.
