Selling Advice on a S5
Discussion
Hi,
Quick Q. I am selling my 2009 S5. I will get it MOT'ed for a full year. It's also due for it's 40k service too. I was wondering if it's worth taking it to Audi to get it done at £500 cost or should I sell it without?
I think a buyer would prefer to get done themselves. What do you folks think?
Regards,
LP

People generally don't like buying work and furthermore will usually see additional value in work already done for them. If it needs work the mindset will be the cost of this and something for the time/aggro.
If your car is newly serviced, with a long MOT, good tyres, and has been thoroughly valeted the purchase decision will be an easy one.
When someone that has already looked at a few rough or sub par examples sees yours and the effort put into the sale it will speak volumes of the seller.

I'd get the service done and sell with it.
As a buyer, I'd be immediately put off a car that would need a service as soon as I'd bought it.
Of course you can take the money of the service off the price of the car, but if it were me buying, I'd be worried that a service might throw up something else that needed doing.
I also think that having 'just serviced' in yoiur ad is a selling point as it means the buyer has the longest possible time before having to spend on the car.

Oddly enough I've been looking at these recently with a view to buying one later this year so I'm your target market... I'd definitely see it as a major plus if you'd just had it serviced rather than buying one that immediately required me to put my hand in my pocket. Even more so if it was still FASH.
Why not get Audi to do it and then list it for £250 more than you were going to which covers the difference between them and the specialist garage service cost...?
I'd ask about yours but I'm not in a position to buy just yet.
