Fuel gauge playing games

This is bizarre, I have a 2013 Alhambra standard 177bhp that has a remap.
I ran the fuel down today, not deliberately, to a point where the range said 0 miles and the gauge was out of the bottom end of the red.
Got to a garage put £10 in and the gauge went to just over 5/16ths and the range 200 miles.
This doesn't make sense. Anyone got any thoughts on this please ?
