Mk 7 1.6 TDI - noises when driving
Discussion
Was out in the Mrs Golf TDI the other night when we noticed a weird intermittent whine/whistle/screeching noise. I can't decide what's causing it, because there doesn't seem to be much of a pattern to it, but it does seem to only do it when coasting and not applying much throttle. Definitely sounds like it's coming from the front end - could it be engine/turbo or more likely brakes/bearings/hubs?

If it's coming from the engine bay, it could be the auxiliary belt slipping
It could also be a brake binding, so carefully check the temperature of each disc after driving and if any are really hot.
Thanks I'll check those out. I think it's more likely the auxiliary belt, is that an expensive fix?It could also be a brake binding, so carefully check the temperature of each disc after driving and if any are really hot.
