Audi MMI built in maps ?
Discussion
Thanks
So if I am deepest darkest Wales or Scotland etc with no phone coverage then I will still be able to use the map built into the car ?
I'm only pressing the point because I assume that means Audi must have done a deal with Google to brand their maps (or provide them) without the need for any sort of data connection

Yes as said previously you can use the car's own maps if you have no phone signal. So if I am deepest darkest Wales or Scotland etc with no phone coverage then I will still be able to use the map built into the car ?

Previous cars with sat nav had their own maps, who they sourced them from I don't know but I do recall the cost to update them was prohibitive. Cheaper to buy a new Garmin/TomTom sat nav instead. Why the worry where the map comes from? If google is showing on your map maybe you are using the mapping via the phone and thus are using your data connection and allowance. To use the Audi inbuilt map you don't use your data allowance.
In my Touareg, which has the same system more or less, if using a data connection then the maps are shown as Google Earth images and without data just as conventional satnav maps.
Without data you lose the online traffic info, online search, Google Street View etc, but the system still works perfectly well without a data connection.

Thanks, I think that clears it up
I don;t have an Audi at the moment (Golf R32) but will probably change in the next 12 months or so.
I don;t mind where the built-in maps come from so long as they are just that ... built in. All my experience with Google thus far has been via their online services I wasn't aware they have sold a 'fixed in time' maps on dvd/SD/memory chip to anyone until now
Thanks
