Audi extended warranty?
Discussion
Recently took on a 2010 C6 A6 2.0TDI and wondering if it would be worth taking out an official warranty? Seems to be coming back at ~£43 pcm which seems fairly reasonable for named component, less than 10k a year and £100 excess. Suppose what I want to know is;
a) is it comprehensive enough to worth bothering?
b) do I need a full Audi service history to apply it? Car is 4 main dealer 1 specialist stamp. (at 54k miles)
c) anybody any experience with them on a used vehicle?
My biggest concerns are probably drive train related including the Multitronic box.

I've always kept the Audi warranty on my TTS.
It's about £500 per year for comprehensive with a £100 excess.
I'm probably slightly down money wise but it's peace of mind as I have a DSG gearbox!
Repairs are easy. All sorted with a main dealer, you just pay them the excess. The breakdown cover is good too. I had a convertible roof flap motor fail, which meant the roof wouldn't close. They took the car away for secure storage overnight, then to the dealer the next day.
An S5 Sportback loan car was delivered to me at work the next day!
I don't think it has to be Audi service history but the Ts and Cs change a lot so it's worth reading the latest ones.

On an RS6, yes.
But on a 7 year old 2.0tdi, spending £500 a year on warranty doesn't make sense to me, rather self insure (unless you really don't have a few k in the bank in the event of the gearbox going or there are well known, high probability problems on this model? in which case get rid!).

I must admit the T&C's seem very imposing, I am just concerned they will try and weasel out of any sort of claim and my £516 per year becoming a rather expensive placebo. Not terribly bothered by break down as I have that separately.
I probably will go ahead, it's not a hugely expensive car but it is one we plan on keeping for a fair few years and the idea of a £2-3k gearbox bill makes me feel ill.

This is the other side of the coin, I have a cushion but I don't think anybody would be delighted to be presented with a heavy bill (we're certainly not company directors) But on a 7 year old 2.0tdi, spending £500 a year on warranty doesn't make sense to me, rather self insure (unless you really don't have a few k in the bank in the event of the gearbox going or there are well known, high probability problems on this model? in which case get rid!).

Plenty about with 140k+ miles, dual mass flywheel seems to be a thing that occurs and theres a few horror stories, but I suppose that stands true for any model on the market at this age.
I've never had an issue claiming. I've had roof flap motors (2 occasions) and a thermostat.
Coincidentally one of my window regulators failed today. Courtesy car coming to me at work tomorrow and car ok into the dealer in the evening.
I've also just renewed and I'm pretty sure there is breakdown cover included. It is optional but I'm sure it's there.

The breakdown service provided a loan car to work the next day (brand new S3). I then dropped my car off at the dealer in the evening and left it with them.
Just picked it up and didn't even have to pay my £100 excess as it was done under goodwill.
So the warranty wasn't technically needed for the repair, but did save a 2 week wait while using a car with the window stuck down to get it booked in to the dealer.
Only problem is now I want to buy a new S3!
Is that on your MY09 TT?
I've not signed up thus far, I've had the transmission fluid changed and that's it at the moment. Likelyhood is I'll keep the money to one side in case, warranty is just handy for little niggles. My central locking module in the drivers door is intermittent.. wonder if that would be covered.

Well, I've bit the bullet.
Gone full component cover; was approximately £59 per month. Probably overkill on a 6 year old Audi but I'll save more than the warranty cost in fuel and tax over the course of the year over the car it has replaced so it kind of evens itself out. It's just the convenience of being able to drop it in at a main agent if the unforeseen arises, and with the well documented fragility of these CVT boxes it makes me feel a little better. (Although I am told the later ones are much, much better.)
£15 per week for peace of mind I suppose. (Kind of want to get some use out of it in a backwards way)
