I'm waiting for my S5 lease to arrive and my mobile contract has reached the point that I can upgrade my handset. I'm quite tempted by the Google Pixel, but recall that in the A7 I really needed rSAP to make best use of the entertainment & nav systems. As far as I can work out, the Pixel doesn't have rSAP.

For those with the 2017 A4/A5 or variants are there any things that don't work (or don't work as well) using a non-rSAP phone?

Cheers smile

This was an issue a few years ago, but I think the new systems work better. In any event, if the car can't use your phone for MMI functions the easy work around is a cheap pre-paid data sim.

I used to buy 12 month / 12 GB ones for £30-60 depending on available deals, which worked fine for google satellite images on the nav etc.

Cheers Elysium.

I tried using a cheap giffgaff sim in the A7 (with my phone connected by bluetooth) but there were still some niggles and it was only when I moved to an rSAP Samsung phone that everything worked perfectly. That was a 2011 car though, so as you say it's likely to have improved since then smile

Same here; cheap giff gaff PAYG sim in mine and find it more reliable than RSAP with work Samsung.

More convenient also as outside of work hours my phone (iPhone) doesn't support RSAP anyway.
