Hi Just received a letter from our local Audi explaining that subject to certain conditions they will offer goodwill should certain engine system fail. This would apply to vehicles which has had the EA 189 NOx service action. Anybody else had this notification.
Are Audi expecting future issues and basically getting in first. Have heard from unconfirmed sources that Audi are having quite a number of issues with components failing due to the software update.

I've not received any letter yet but I have read on the VW website that they will cover certain components (EGR, Injectors etc..) for a period of 24 months (150k miles max) after the update is done.

This is down to the bad press of issues after the update and a number of people, like me, refusing to get the update done. My car runs perfectly as it is so why risk it. However, this guarantee may change my mind. I don't know. It's called "Trust Building Measure"

It will be due to the number of clued up folk who are refusing to get it done or the number of folk who do get it done and then kick up a stink when they have issues shortly after.
Googling shows lots of folk suffering EGR failures shorty after getting the software update. On a car that's out of warranty the replacement EGR part fitted is over £1K at main dealer prices.

I have since sold my EA189 engined seat but there was no way I was getting it fixed.
I personally know 3 owners who won't have it done due to the reasons above.

One of my nephews had an Audi A6 and following the 'emissions' mod he felt the car had been ruined. Rough and noisy tick-over, less torque at low revs and frequent re-gens. His local Audi dealer disagreed and basically intimated he was mistaken. After 2 months he gave up and traded the car in for a BMW. Says he will never buy a VAG car again.

Thanks - hadn't that. It's an absolutely massive climb-down from the completely hard-faced attitude VAG has had so far, where they've been treating every owner with issues as if they're the first person to have had a problem. It's like VAG is unaware the internet exists.

However I'm still miffed that they haven't offered financial (or similar) compensation. £3K from VW would make me feel better.
