We've got a Seat Exeo estate. In the back we have two children's seats. Sometimes my wife has to sit in the middle as our youngest can get quite upset (8months old).

The Seat isn't really wide enough for this to be comfortable. Would an A6 or a Superb be wider?

We've got a very long car journey for later in the year and is consider swapping for something bigger.

We had this. Superb is big, but longer rather than wider, with the middle seat just a bench - not great for long journeys.

We looked at some cars that had 3 proper seats, but they were MPVs and didn't float my boat, either because they had loads of seats and boots that weren't massive.

Bought a Peugot Partner Teepee in the end. Still a middle bench seat, but we have two big car seats on each side?, and even I can fit in comfortably (6ft pie-eater that I am).

Even the view's pretty good.

Thanks. Wish we didn't have to get a van but it does increasingly look like we're going to have to get to one.

I think you might be my doppelgänger - same car, same issue, although our youngest is older now and the situation is improved.

We made use of the front seat isofix, with the airbag turned off, so Mum could sit comfortably behind and entertain. Might be an option.

Does the front seat do isofix? Hadn't realised that.

Think it's standard fit.

A6 (C7) will get an adult between the 2 kiddy seats but its a squeeze, easier to move eldest one to the front for UK Journeys.
From memory France don't like kids in the front if there are other seats available so rules that out, thankfully on last euro blast both were happy in the back.

My wife can sit comfortably between the kids' seats in the back of our Yeti which is surprisingly wide.
However with kids as young as yours I doubt the boot would be big enough for buggies etc, and a family trip would definitely require a roofbox.

Having just sold our A6 Avant for an A4 Avant I can confirm there is a considerable 'real world' difference. You could get someone in the back between two child seats in the A6, but this wouldn't be possible in the A4.

The A6 is a much bigger car inside, and should be plenty big enough for the average family.
