Probably a non news story, but Volkswagen seem to have quietly (re)introduced (purely) petrol Passats back in to the range.

You can now get 1.4TFSI variants with both 125BHP and 150BHP and mated to the 6 speed manual / DSG options.

It always surprised me that they didnt have one - Skoda seem to have sold quite a few petrol superb variants.

Will be interested to see how many, if any, they actually manage to sell.

It's surely going to have its work cut out against heavily discounted A4's with the same engine?

£21,610 for a 125BHP 1.4TFSI S model. Assuming 10% discount thats around £19,500.

£4,000 finance contribution so in theory you can buy a brand new Passat TFSI for £15,500? (assuming you subsequently clear the finance)

The only caveat being with the £4,000 offer is that its "cars from stock" - there may not be any 1.4TFSI cars "in stock" at the moment?

I've just noticed too that they've got a 1.8TFSI variant listed in GT and R Line trim...

180BHP.

Oh v nice.

I'm glad about this. I like the Passat and i'd have went for a petrol variant had there been any avail when i bought mine.

If deals like this continue i might have a look for the turn of the year - a 1.8 TFSI GT or R Line with DSG or maybe that 2.0TSI which push a lot of buttons for me in a big cruiser.

That is very interesting, just checked the configurator.

The 180 has 7spd DSG but the 220 only has 6. Also neither available with 4mo.

I wonder if the 280 will be introduced with 4mo like the Superb 280? Love everything about my Alltrack apart from the way the engine/gearbox combination drives! Having driven the petrol Superb it's completely different and I'm sure the 2 litre TSI in the Passat will result in a fine family wagon.

I'm quite tempted actually, hopefully they'll punt them out on cheap leases in 6 months time after nobody buys them... hehe

?

Its giving a bit of diversity and choice to people.

You can now get a Passat with diesel, petrol and hybrid variants.

Diesel variants will be with us for a long time yet.

I agree. They may be more popular than you think though. After the diesel backlash, I am sure that there are people out there looking for a petrol Passat.

I prefer the Superb though. Especially an L&K 280 model.

It doesn't really surprise me, if i'm honest. I can guarantee that most wouldn't have gone for a petrol variant anyway, despite potentially suiting one more. So, they simply didn't offer it at the time.

Today is a different story, with the demise of diesel being plastered everywhere. If anything though, i think people will horde diesel more, while they still can, as apposed to swapping to petrol.

I also think that these big, heavy, saloons do suit the heavy-oil stuff better. My current Audi A4 is the 1.4 TFSI unit and it doesn't suit the car whatsoever, IMO. I don't do the mileage suited for diesel though.

I'm hoping diesel cars will go into shortage on the used market so values will increase!

I've always thought turbo-diesels work better as autos as you don't get caught out by being in the wrong gear and I'd imagine the same is true for under-sized engines with tall gearing.

Can't believe it!!!! It's as if VW have been listed to a conversation going on in my house.

Wife had a VW Passat 170 TDi Estate a few years ago and loved it, now she has a Octavia VRS 220 TSI Estate and loves that. We have been looking for a new car and the wife is wanting "The Engine from her Skoda, with a DSG gearbox but with the more grown up look that her old Passat had" (her words)

Now they've only gone and built one and I wouldn't have know if it wasn't for this thread.
