Hi all my wife is getting a audi q5 or should be anyway on the weekend its a 2008 58 plate s line 2.0 diesel with 70k I am a little nervous regarding the oil pump problem that is caused by some balance or somewhat. And can be a big problem if it goes. Does anyone know a remedy to fix this to feel safe for the future. I know someone had this go on a a4 2.0tdi 07 and cost a lot of money.

Its the hex drive to the oil pump which can wear out - fairly easy for a garage to take the sump off and check its condition.

If they are a good garage they will put a new one in - if they are looking to do it in the cheap then they'll turn the hex drive around and refit it.

Both solutions work to extend the life of the hex drive, worth doing around the 100,000 mile mark apparently.

I can put you in touch with a good garage for this if you are in the Bristol area

The common rail 2.0 diesel in those is generally quite well behaved.

The earlier PD diesel (>07) did indeed have more than its fair share of common faults.

Well it is a 58 plate so fingers crossed all good but would definetly get done if its cheap enough for piece of mind. The car is owned by the garage so from new as there personal car and has had the cambelt done 9k ago so should be good for time hopefully.
