MK4 Golf 2.0 8v misfire.
Discussion
Any help on this would me much appreciated.
10 months ago I parked a 2001 2.0 Golf GTi up, as I no longer needed it but whilst parked up it has developed a misfire.
I hooked it up to an OBD scanner and it reported a random multiple misfire on all cylinders. Thinking it was probably the coilpack I replaced it. The new coilpack has improved the misfire and now the OBD scanner only reports a misfire on cylinder 2.
Apart from replacing the HT leads I have no idea what to try next.
Some other things to bear in mind:
Just before it was parked up it had a major service and all the spark plugs were replaced.
The fuel in the tank is now 10 months old, could stale fuel cause a misfire?
The coolant temp sensor was replaced about a year before it was parked up. Whilst running the needle stays at a steady 90.
The engine light is on and comes back after being cleared, as soon as you put any load on the engine.
The car was my Grandad's and has a lot of sentimental value so I really don't want to get rid of it but if I'm going to have spend a fortune trying to find what's wrong I may have to. So any help is very much appreciated.
