Loss of tyre pressure indicator MK7 GTI
Discussion
Hi,
The loss of tyre pressure indicator came on , for the right side rear tyre, on my way to work. I stopped at the next services and checked the tyre pressure of all 4 tires. The rear right one had gone down to 30 psi while the other 3 were 36 psi. I usually maintain all 4 tyres at 37 psi. I inspected the tyre but could not find a puncture. I brought up the pressure of the tyre back to 37 psi and continued on my journey. After driving another 40 miles, I stopped to check the air pressure again and it was at 37 psi. But the tyre pressure indicator light is still on. There could be in all likelihood, a small puncture, which I will need to get inspected at a local garage, but was wondering why the tyre pressure indicator light was still on. Does it need to be reset?
Thanks,

Thanks,
Yes, it will need reset.
The system doesn't measure actual pressure it uses the wheel speed sensors to detect a drop in pressure through change in rolling resistance. It needs to be reset to set the datum for each tyre and to.put the light.
The system does not know if the pressure in each tyre is correct, only if it has dropped since the system has been reset. You need to reset each time to blow your tyres up or change wheels / tyres.
It will tell you in the owners manual how to reset otherwise a quick google will show you.
