Hi. I've recently been looking for a estate / tourer. I'd pretty much settled on a 530d, buy the cost and hassle of run flats started to bug me a little. After driving a A6 Avant 3 litre diesel 245 on Thursday, I'm very happy to go ahead and buy one, but would like as much feedback as possible. The car I've seen is a 2012 62.

Anything and everything. Faults, problems and gremlins.

I drove a 2014 245 3 litre, but lost the sale. I've seen a 62 which is now 5 years old. What I'm attracted to is that it's got 24k miles on it! It's a good £3k less than the 2014 one I drove, so seems worth looking at.

Any help appreciated.

The 3.0 tdi doesn't like short journeys, I'd be concerned the mileage is so low. At 5 years old I'd be looking at something in the 50-70k region, used but not driven around the world, same time not spent ages sat around doing nothing or lots of short journeys.

Has it been serviced on age or on mileage?

My first check would be the condition of the DPF, give the oil a good sniff. Take the engine cover off and move the swirl flap actuators and check for any sticking.

Test drive check the condition of the box.

Washer fluid leaking at the rear.

Usual squeaks and rattles, general condition stuff, everything works etc.

I think it's been serviced on age. Last service was November 2016 2k miles ago.
