Looking for a cheaper way into RS6 ownership and seen a RS6 with low miles advertised at a low price.
The dealer advert reads that the clutch feels like its slipping. Obviously the car is an auto and hence no clutch, but what is it likely to be and how much would a repair set me back?

Thanks

Its a proper auto box, so its either the torque converter, or the box itself, either I would think would cost a fortune to either fix or replace.

I'm not quite following wanting a cheap solution, but looking at a car that's fked, this will not end well, especially with something like an RS6.

Car looks like a nice example and has been on sale for a long while. It should be easy to negotiate the price down.

They're known for transmission failure, could be due to lack of servicing or abuse or a combination of the above.

Either buy a good car or budget min £4k for a reconditioned box.

It may just want a fluid and filter, but given the risk of potentially needing to replace it is it worth it to you.

Rs6's are heavy on expensive parts and servicing. Before you even count fuel

As a guide to have the D2 S8 similar (might even be the same) box refurbed by a certified ZF agent cost approx £3.5k including fitting, comes with a pretty comprehensive warranty as well. One of the best (the only A rated in the UK) ZF agent is in Glasgow

Needs a wheel refurb as well another £300 - £400

...and the other plethora of faults you'll find when the box is out.

You could easily add £10k to the sale price to make a bad RS6 into anything like a good one.

If you want a C7 hover around here, RS246, SRS, Audi-sport etc. and wait for one to come up where the owner can demonstrate the level of care it's received. Even then you'll want to earmark (probably) a couple of grand annually for upkeep on top of routine servicing and maintenance.

Advert says these would normally go for £12k, not a bloody chance for a 113k mile car!

That one also looks lowered so other than the broken box (£4k) you'd need to check out the suspension to see if it's aftermarket (explains the low look) or if it's the original DRC "hydraulic" system which has leaked the gas/fluid which is also very common on these cars (£2.5k - £3k replacement inc fitting).

So at best this is a £5k car with all the work needed on it. Sadly this happens to a lot of C5 RS6's as the buying cost is low enough that it people think "Oh go on then" before finding out these can cost big bucks to keep running (upto £3k+ a year) so when something big breaks (or starts to look like it'll fail soon like Gearbox/Suspension/Turbos) they trade it in sharpish.

If you want to make the car your own then a cheap broken one like this one can be a good starting point as long as you realise it may cost you another £7k to get it running right for 3-8 years before the same issues start appearing again.

I was thinking that - it's 14yrs old! Never mind the RS6 specific parts, it's going to throw up all sorts of 14yr old car issues.

There's a similar car listed now with allegedly only bits and pieces to sort that's £50 cheaper. Seller notes it's had thousands spent on it and would be worth £9K when sorted.
