HI there,

I'm thinking about getting a T5 transporter/carvelle/camper and the fuel of choice is diesel, but I've no experience in this area on if any of the above engines have any known weaknesses. I know to buy on condition rather than mileage and service history)

Also any advice on manual / auto and any weakness would be helpful too.

Anything to steer clear off ? for example one on autotrader for a 2.0 TDI states "Had a complete engine rebuild 2 years ago just when we bought it, under warranty, when a oil seal went deep in the engine" now this could be a one off, but as I say I have little experience on this.

Any thoughts welcome or any threads on a similar subject would be useful too.

I'd avoid 2010 and 2011 180 TDIs. The 2.0 TDI 180BHP version (engine code CFCA) has been reported having problems using too much oil, resulting in a new engine required (about £7k from what I have read). This seems to be on 2010 and 2011 engines and the issue was supposed to have been fixed after then.

This hasn't been an issue on the 140BHP 2.0TDI though.
