Audi Cold Start Problem!!

Hi all,

I have a 2005 Audi A3 1.9 TDI wich is taking about 30 to 40 seconds of cranking before it will start up in the morning. It is then followed by a big cloud of white smoke out of the exhaust. It will then start first time for a few hrs.. but if left for about 4hrs or more, it will struggle to start again..

Ive had the temp gague and the glow plugs changed with no joy!! any ideas???

Do you know if the glow plugs are actually receiving power? Not sure on the audis but the bmw's have a controller which can fail which in turn won't power the plugs.
