Clunking wipers Golf Mk5

Hi all

Am working through a list of niggles on my recently acquired 2005 Mk5 Golf GTI. I'm not very hands-on. The windscreen wipers make a sort of 'clunk' noise each time they are about to change direction (ie when pointing upwards in line with the driver's A-pillar)

Assuming it's not a case of "they all do that sir" is there a part I ought to try changing or perhaps another solution?

Have you tried a new set of blades?

Sounds as though the driver's side one is going off the screen. Assuming it is the correct size (21") then you could try adjusting the park position to compensate.

It could also be a worn linkage.
