5.0 Tdi V10 Touareg mpg?
Discussion
Anyone here have or run a V10 Diesel Touareg?
What sort of real world mpg are you getting from it?
And what sort of things to watch for on them? Have read they can eat gearboxes. Is this actuall common, anything else to look out for on them?
Prices for early ones seem rather a bargain at the moment.

I run a V10 Phaeton that shares the same engine and gearbox. Not sure if there's much difference in weight that would effect fuel economy but mine over the last 3 years has produced the following. As my daily in traffic, A roads, stop start 23 MPG. on a long run say a 400 mile round trip that I did as a University Taxi for my daughter 40 MPG.
In my 3+ years all I've had to replace are the power steering pipes that my good indie did for £500 which includes genuine pipes. There can be an issue with the gearbox so if you try one and the little PNDLR display lights up as a block there could be a problem. Mine does this although we think mine is the small circuit at the base of the lever that does break. It has only gone into limp mode once and when I stopped turned off the ignition and started again it was fine. If working correctly it should indicate the shifts up in the little display, If it goes into limp mode on the test drive walk away.
It is a fantastic engine I put hydra fuels cetane booster and also the injector cleaner but running it on V_power diesel does the same thing and less frig.
After reading an article by Mercedes Benz I've been putting a drop of cheap 2 stroke mix into the fuel for smoother running. Also I have kept strictly to the correct oil for the car you can buy it from TPS or the internet.

Thanks for the reply. Wow 40mpg. That’s really impressive. Guess the AWD heavier Touareg probably wouldn’t manage that. But anything in the 30’s would be nice.
The Phaeton is AWD and a heavy old barge. The VW Vortex forum is the place to go for advice from actual owners.Gassing Station | Audi, Seat, Skoda & VW | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
