Audi TT mk2 Top mount woes
Discussion
Hi,
Does anyone have a solution for the following (more annoying than anything) problem?
I noticed that there was a noise coming from my suspension area when moving the steering wheel lock to lock - like a knocking but very light and at different frequencies, it appeared to be the driver side top mount.
When moving the steering wheel the metal that is set into the top mount rubber will judder and move with the direction of steering - it is moving within the rubber housing, very jerkily cause the noise.
I replaced the top mount in question and it seemed to solve it - for a day - now the new mount is doing the same!
The top mount nut is at correct torque with a new nyloc nut.
Why is this happening?? Ive studied the setup and schematic of the front strut and can't work out how so much force is being generated from somewhere that the metal rotates within the rubber causing the noise??
Any knowledge would be appreciated as its driving me mad!
Thanks

The standard mounts are terrible, especially if you fit aftermarket suspension, they squeak/squelch over speed bumps as well. The metal insert is a well known problem and 034 Motorsports offer upgraded ones. They look identical to the standard part, but they addressed the poor construction method used by VAG.
