Hey folks.

Would appreciate a bit of real world info.

I need to change the CL it's been a brilliant year but a new job means my commute is going from an 8 mile round trip to 110 a day. 6000 miles with the amg has returned a magnificent 14.3 mpg. I can't justify the mpg if I'm filling it up 2-3 times a week. New Commute is M62 with a cut accros the moors if there's a accident or just for the fking hell off it. In the winter the CL on these roads isn't worth the risk.

I've driven a wonderful S6 today but my head is saying as it's so refined and the engine note is muted in comparison to the CL, I'll save a st load of cash on fuel and enjoy the A8 for a year and if the next job is closer to home go RS.

Any thoughts appreciated. I've never had an Audi. Driving to Yorkshire through the winter seemed a perfect time to scratch this particular itch.

S6 mpg? Is any better than my current 14?

S8 was doing better than 14mpg, to be exact 24mpg, so S6 should do better than CL AMG. A8 diesel would do even better and it has huge tank, so you won't have to visit petrol station too often.

Perfect, thanks. Budget won't allow an s8 right now. Having found some real world reviews S6 mpg would appear to be tolerable.

Spent time at an Audi dealer earlier. Anyone any thoughts on the cost for 12000 miles in fuel on he used approved displays? They seemed outrageous but I am in a cl63.

All depends on which S6 & which A8?

Current S6 you should see low 30's MPG on a run, but will drop quickly if you exploit the performance. Previous S6 will be no better than your CL63 given it runs with a V10.

Petrol A8's again it depends if you mean the current D4 or previous D3. I had a 4.2 V8 petrol D3 & i never saw high 20's except on a frugal motorway run. No idea on the D4 petrols, but i have a new D4 3.0TDi Black Edition & can't get it under 30mpg with most journeys hitting the low 40's. The updated 3.0TDi although no ballistic, would comfortably keep up with the D4 & D3 petrols all day long, excluding the S's. IIRC mine will hit 62 in 5.9 secs so no slouch.

So that's the C7 & D3?

Reckon on mid 20's as an average for the C7, high 20's even very low 30's on a sensible Motorway run.

Never tried the 4.2TDi in the D3 or D4 so although no doubt quicker, but gut says it's at the cost of efficiency. Bit old skull me so can't see the point of big diesel engines, as kind of defeats the purpose.

Did have a C7 S6 for a few days not long after launch & it was a decent motor so of the 2 i'd go for the S6, but if considering the 3.0TDi A8, that would be my preference.

Recently bought c7 s6 in London average 21.4 mpg at steady 40 mph it drops down to 4 cylinders with cylinder deactivation so better than expected but it really is a lot quiter than your Merc

If you are doing miles and want comfort and mpg 640d msport. Feels classy inside, very comfortable drive and you can get 40mpg. Plus you will get a great deal on one.

Thanks all.

640 grancoupe whilst nice isn’t for me. Current budget means no 4wd. I’m not sliding across the Pennines all winter.

Leaning S6. MPG is much better than mine.

How about the A6 or A7 BiTdi? Often called the thinking mans S6/S7.
Ballistic, covert, lots of torque and mid 30's to 40 on a run

Ive just bought an A7 BiTDi, Epic engine, excellent car.
Can give you good MPG but like with anything it depends how much you like to exercise your right foot.

Also Bitidi has a nicer sound that normal diesels as audi tinkered with the exhaust with some tecky speakers for outside the car or something like that
