Anyone know much about Audi Warranty re Bose speakers?
Discussion
Hey all
I've had this issue with my Audi A7 Bose front speaker since I've bought the car. Took it back to the dealer all the way in Huntingdon and they told me that the distortion was perfectly normal.
Took it to my local dealer in Harold Wood and they said that's definitely not normal.
Called the Sales guy I got the car from and he said "don't worry, you got full component warranty, just get it replaced under warranty".
It's taken me 6 months to find time and get a booking at Harold Wood Audi. I booked it in 2 months ago for tomorrow and they called me earlier today to say that speakers aren't covered under warranty!!!?? Why not tell me 2 months ago I have no idea.
I tried calling the original salesman and he's left the company. Tried to talk to customer services from Huntingdon but no one picked up so left a message and nobody called back.
I've taken a look at my cover which does say it covers all components but I cannot for the life of me find anywhere where it says the speakers are not covered... here are the exclusions:
Replacement parts and labour will be paid for with the following exceptions:
• Routine servicing (all parts replaced associated with routine servicingare excluded)
• All bodywork, glass including heated rear screens and seals
• All adjustments, cam belt timing, diesel pump timing or cleaning
• Batteries
• Brake frictional material
• Bulbs, including Xenon and fuses
• Coolant pipes and hoses
• Clutch frictional material
• CV boot gaiters
• DPF filters
• Exhaust systems (catalytic converters are covered for internal failure)
• Upholstery, interior and exterior trims
• Non-manufacturer’s original parts
• Tyres and wheels
• Unencased drive belts
• Wiper blades and arms
• Wiring and connections (including HT leads and aerial coaxial cables)
Any advice would be appreciated!

DPF not covered? Is this an audi warranty, new or used?
Is your head unit standard? no amps or anything after market fitted? Bose speakers in audis arehigher impedance (8 ohm IIRC), so can get f
ked up if you add non stock parts to the system. Having said that, they went distorty in my old S3, and it turned out it was the head unit that went faulty.
I cannot see they are not covered in that list, so stick at them. But it may not be the speaker... Are they all duff or just one? If so, swap it side to side see if it stays crap?.

Totally standard. Bought the car from Audi last December 2 years old back then. Speaker was distorted the moment I picked it up!Is your head unit standard? no amps or anything after market fitted? Bose speakers in audis arehigher impedance (8 ohm IIRC), so can get f

Just spoke to my brother who had a speaker changed by Watford Audi 2 years ago when he owned a second hand A4.
I reckon they're mugging me off.
The guy said they count speakers as "interior trim". That's nonsense!

Different car, but probably similar warranty terms - I had a Dynaudio system in my VW Scirocco - The front speaker had distorted sound - Southend VW replaced under warranty, without any problems.
I thought so. I told myself that there's no reason the salesman would lie to me and tell me it was covered... Then I realised what I had just said so wasn't sure.Tried calling the Audi warranty hotline to confirm but was on hold for an hour and then they closed!
These Bose speakers must be really rubbish and prone to blowing. I've spoken to 3 people after posting this who I personally know that have had speakers replaced by warranty:
Audi A8 front speaker replaced by Southend last year (2 year old car under original warranty)
Audi A7 front speaker replaced by Bristol Audi about 4 years ago (car was under new car warranty)
Audi A4 Black Ed drive side speaker replaced by M25 Audi Watford 2 years ago (car was under approved used car warranty)
I doubt they changed the warranty terms to remove speakers. Car is still going in to have all 4 wheels refurbished under the alloy wheel protection I got so I will try and call warranty people again in the morning and update this thread in case someone else has the same question.

Yup. I called Warranty and they said it is covered. They had no idea why any dealer would say it's not covered. We will pay for the costs of repairing or replacing the

When I dropped car off, they were still adamant speakers are not covered and are an exclusion. I had to really restrain myself as the bloke acted like he knew better! I asked them to show me where it says they are an exclusion or to even call warranty and ask them (who made a note on my file to expect a speaker claim).
The bloke serving me called someone else over who was also adamant that speakers aren't covered. But then he said even if they are I'd have to pay investigation fee or some nonsense. I told them warranty covers investigation fee.
Eventually the guy that came over disappeared to speak to his "warranty advisor", came back and said speaker is actually covered but if they find out it's the grill, I'll be charged.
I'm pretty sure it's a blown speaker, there's distortion on all levels, not a rattle. I used to once upon a time work in a car audio shop so I'm fairly confident I know what a blown speaker sounds like! Seems quite a common issue with A7 and A8 Bose systems.
I'll update thread once I get the car back.
Thanks for all the responses.
