Hello all....

Never had an Audi ... had most other marques, but never an audi...

Very tempted to buy a used A7 or hopefully S7 (If an A7 then it has to be petrol)
Will be our main family car - wife has an A class, and I have a toy in the garage for my fun.

Just wondered if anyone that owns one can recommend or put me off? Also wondering if there are any essential options, that I should ensure it has?

Very grateful for any advice / thoughts?

I have had a nice choice of different cars over the years but I have to say the A7 I have got I am seriously starting to love.
I got a 2015 A7 BITDI Black Ed and its an epic GT car.
Have had a fair share of smaller cars such as 3 series' and larger cars such as 5 series and S classes but I fine the A7 excellent on the motorway even on 21" wheels, and the BiTDI is a peach.

I too tried to find a petrol first but it was even harder than trying to find a BiTDi and I found the S7 just overpriced for the facelift model I wanted.
I wouldnt say anything is essential as the A7 comes with most things you would need and want such as Nav, heated seats, elec seats, bose sound, power boot etc. I dont have the adv tech pack but certainly would have been a nice to have. In my case though the next car up with my millage and year with the tech pack was an extra 4.5k which is just not worth it at all.

I have two young children which of course require car seats, good space, 4 doors, gorgeous looks, bitdi has a lovely lovely sound considering its a derv, I just think its brilliant. Suits me to a T.

Good luck with your search. Do some research on the BiTDi you may find its the one to have, the power and push is quite silly

Standard kit is good but the standard (SD card based) navigation looks cheap in an otherwise very plush interior.

There are 3.0TFSI cars around if petrol is your preference. Very good engine and crazy tunable if you wish for more shove.

As a car they are very colour/wheel sensitive and this is reflected in desirability/ease of sale. If it's on little dull wheels in a 'meh' colour combo expect the value to reflect this.

S7 is a bit of a monster; particularly the way it launches. The combo of V8T with the S-Tronic box is superb.

I personally like Adaptive cruise, Bose, & Reversing camera (long car).

OP

I am in the same boat as you. I’ve previously had a a7 and loved it. I am back on the market and would like another one - interestingly, I was after a BE, however didn’t know much about the BiTDi, looks like it’s an extra 100bhp?

Fancy a S7 , however, prices are not in my favour.

A6 BiTDi owner here (Basically the same as an A7), I looked at A7's as loved the sleak look, but wanted/needed the bigger boot.
Options are a personal thing but for me the Tech pack advanced which gave the bigger sat nav screen, Adaptive cruise, lane guidance and side sensing was a must. I think the Conect which give you google maps (Via Sim card) and street view also came as part of that pack to,

As others have said the Black edition is the one to get as it give you the Bose system (B&O is rare as was a 6.5k option!)
Mine had the S-line sports suspension option fitted which lowered the suspension further, even on 20"s its fine (A7 BLK edition has 21"'s (18" winters it just glides!)
Still love mine, just stuck a tuning box on and its just mental now:-)
