Coolant leak

My local garage have diagnosed a coolant leak on my Golf R and have found that the thermostat housing/water pump unit behind the inlet manifold is leaking.

It is quite involved and not something they are willing to take on.

Has anyone else had a similar issue? The car was registered is March 2014 so I’m hoping VW may do some work under goodwill?!

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Me! Just had the thermostat housing replaced on my 14 plate gti. Fortunately under warranty (Das welt auto) as I purchased the car from a VW dealer.

Had the same on my Cupra 280 (same engine as Golf R) MY14. Was done under warranty in 2015.

Thanks for the replies - looks like it's not uncommon - anyone had theirs done outside of warranty?
