Have an intermittent fault with the engine coolant temp sensor and fuel gauge.

Fuel tank full - no faults
Fuel tank reaches 3/4 - Fuel gauge drops to 0 and engine coolant temp warning light comes on
Fuel tank reaches just under half - Fuel gauge drops to 0 a
Fuel tank at orange light = coolant temp light goes off.

Any ideas how to resolve this? I don't mind it - and drive using the odometer - but my partner is going to start driving the car for a 4 month contract and the temp sensor beeping wouldnt go down to well on the motorway drive.

Thanks

FRMATT

Does it have 6 dials in the instrument cluster?

I believe there is a common problem with the connections behind the 6 dial instrument cluster which create problems similar to those you describe

This isn't a problem on the later 4 dial clusters

Try a VCDS scan.

May be a faulty cluster.
