I am looking at a Golf with the RCD 310 head unit. It is a 2011 model.

I’d buy it with a view to upgrading to a navigation head unit and also getting Bluetooth functionality.

All straightforward, however I have noticed that the display for the RCD 310 is used for the parking sensors. That looks like it could be an issue, certainly for aftermarket.

What are my options? It sounds like the RNS 310 upgrade would require a decent amount of coding.

Would welcome thoughts...

Yes the OEM units will retain the OPS parking sensor display

They definitely shouldn't need a lot of coding. An RNS 310 or 315 should more or less plug and play. Latter is probably a better option as it has inbuilt Bluetooth.

Alpine and Kenwood (maybe others) do either entire units set up for this or interfaces for generic units that do this - including parking sensor display, climate display as well as getting the steering wheel controls working.

There's also Chinese units that look like the OE ones, usually support this stuff (although how well is variable) and usually run some Android variant

A better OE unit should also work fine, although be wary - plenty of "secondhand" units are without the code you'd need, and ones that do tend to be stolen ones that come via Eastern Europe and have been fiddled with to generate a new code for them.

Question on this...

Do the RNS 310 or 315 have Bluetooth audio streaming?

I am aware that the TPK kit that can give this, but if installing that I would probably leave the RCD head unit alone.

The 315 can have it depending which version, they're listed here https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/287901-amund...

The 310 won't have it unless you've got a seperate VW Bluetooth module with A2DP installed in the car

I had a pioneer apple play double din unit and new speakers fitted to my sons 2010 Polo. Its a great head unit. Sound is much improved. Can easily add a reverse camera.

Are you talking about phone? I know that the 315 has (may come with and an option) phone and 310 needs an external box but I am also interested in streaming audio.

I have a strong preference for factory if I am honest - I know there are more capable options (particularly some of the Chinese Android stuff, which is also quite cheap).
