Hi there , hopefully someone can give me some advice on this matter.
I am thinking of buying a Audi A5 3.0 tdi Quattro probably around a 2008 or 2009 depending on price.
I am no sure what gearbox options to look for there seems to be 3 different ones. Are the auto boxes reliable and do the need a lot of maintenance.
Thank you in advance for looking at this post.

Avoid the Multi-tronic (CVT basically)!

Tiptronic or Manual are fine.

Check the Tiptronic has been serviced (80k intervals, but not specified by Audi)

Manual obviously check the clutch.

Thanks for that. Am I right in thinking the 3.0 tdi Quattro is tiptronic or Manual at that age?
Lovely looking cars, will hopefully get a remap done once I find one.

Quattro autos are Tiptronic. Multittonics were fitted to FWD only.

I think the problem I have now will be finding one with the spec I want. At the right price 😁

Very late 09 they did start the switch to S-Tronic with 3.0 TDI quattro.

A 6 speed quattro auto is tiptronic (torque convertor)
A 7 speed quattro auto is S Tronic (double clutch)

My concerns are about the reliability of the auto box or was it just the multitronic (cvt) that was troublesome?

S-Tronic can also be a pain in the arse if not maintained correctly.

They are beautiful looking cars, I can’t wait to get my hands on one.
What would be the best remap for the 3.0 Quattro? I have heard if you remove the dpf now it will fail the MOT is that case?

I bet they are amazing as standard but still think I would like a bit extra bhp.

I have a 2010 A4 3.0TDI Quattro with the Tiptronic box and find it does have an annoying trate of hesitating at junctions when you pull away from a rolling start. Yes press the pedal and nothing... nothing... nothing... woooosh your off! It’s very irritating, and while I suspect the gearbox oil should be changed as the car is now at 102k, there is lots of talk of this also on A5 forums.

This aside, brilliant engine with or without a remap. Mine is remapped and it is very fast.

Yep I have noticed a few people saying they have a slight problem with the hesitation at junctions then launching off. Going to stick with a manual.
Was looking at the reevo and superchip websites, think I might try one of them and see what they offer.

Maybe it’s only ones that haven’t been looked after properly, is there a regular maintenance plan for them would hate to end up with a hefty bill.

My car has full Audi main dealer service history, and has been serviced in full compliance of their schedule. However, the grey area around the gearbox being ‘sealed for life’ or serviced at 70k is well documented. But, based on it effecting some cars and no others it must be to do with internal wear. I’m trying to decide if I should spend the £500 on a gearbox service or just accept the issue. It does completely ruined the driving experience though.

Will £500 sort the problem?

As much I would love flappy paddles I don't know enough about them to take the chance. Knowing my luck I would buy a bad one and get stung with a huge repair bill.
