Any DSG experts?
Discussion
I have a MK5 GTI DSG that has an issue where it actually rolls back when in P (park). It actually feels like its in neutral if the handbrake is not on and it will continue to roll back.
Does it sound like an easy fix? When its rolling back in P - the gearbox just clicks like its trying to lock the diff or something

When a DSG box is in Park its actually in Neutral. You should aways apply the handbrake before releasing the brake pedal on that box. it does rest of something in park, cant remember the full name its something like the Parking Pin (pawl maybe?) anyway its a box out job to replace if it goes and it can go because it isn't designed to hold the car alone on inclines!
Not sure if this helps or not but there is some info to get you going.

Is the above true?
Park and neutral are interchangeable. An auto in Park shouldn't roll backwards or forwards (by much) before it stops. The handbrake shouldn't be needed - except on really steep hills. I always think of those old 70's American shows where people would pull up in a car, ram it in park and then exit without using any handbrake and the car would lurch forward - but no more than an inch or two until the pawl engages.
DSG may be different, but I don't see why.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes you have to apply the footbrake to get it into a brake as per usual.
I did do some research on this before posting and the interwebs states there is a parking pawl in the gearbox which snaps. But I am not sure if the DSG box works in the same way as thats for a conventional auto rather than a dual clutch semi-automatic.
I can literally push the car on level ground while its in Park and get it moving. That pretty much means there is absolutely no brake at all while its in Park.

The parking brake in auto gearboxes is because of lazy US based counter parts.Park and neutral are interchangeable. An auto in Park shouldn't roll backwards or forwards (by much) before it stops. A DSG is a Manual gearbox that just happens to be automated.
