Son has a Golf 1.4 TSI 'Match'.

Has an intermittent problem where the throttle response is very sluggish and then won't rev over 2800rpm under load so car is very slow. Both EPC and engine light on.

I did a VCDS scan which shows and 'Engine Status: Malfunction 0010' with the description;

"1 Fault Found:
008504 - Accelerator Position Sensors (G79) / (G185)
P2138 - 000 - Implausible Correlation - Intermittent - MIL ON
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 10100000
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 14
Reset counter: 255
Mileage: 56603 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2012.06.04
Time: 19:17:44"

It first happened about a month ago and I managed to reset and clear the fault and it's been OK until today. Have cleared it again but obviously it's not getting any better so I need to sort it before he ends up stranded somewhere.

My understanding is that it is likely to be either the throttle pedal, ECU or cable between the two?

Can anyone shed any light on this?...

TIA
