Hi, I've seen a nice TT today, mark 2 2008 model. It's done under 50k miles from first owner, so I reserved. I'd like to find out two things.

Do these cars have carbon buildup issues due to DI engine (2.0 TFSI)? If so, how many miles in does the issues appear?

Question number two is about the door. I noticed that the driver's door window moves down a notch when opened, and moves back when doors are shut. This doesn't happen in the passenger door, which are also stubborn and feel heavy to open up. Is the window thing normal on just one side? Seems bit odd!

Any help/directions are appreciated! Thanks

The window drop should happen on both doors. It's because the doors have frameless windows and the drop is needed for the window to disengage from the seal before opening.

Sorry can't help with your carbon build up question.

great, thanks. I'm reading up on carbon build up and it seems that it can be an issue with cars at 40k. worse, I cannot find anyone to do carbon blasting for Audi here in Scotland, which seems to be the best way to clean up the engine.

It’s an issue on any FSI engine. I had my Audi carbon cleaned in southern England 2 months ago after 37k.

The cleaner said it wasn’t good but no way was the worse he’d seen.

You will get clean high milers and dirty low milers.

Sounds like the window regulator is about to go on the passenger side.

Very common problem.

Any idea how much it costs to fix? I might be able to negotiate the price down a bit

I think about £300 but Audi will often do it under goodwill, or at least contribute.

Mine (2009 car) was done last year and Audi paid for 100% of it. However the car was bought at 3 years old from a main dealer, has full Audi history and extended warranty. I expect these things help!

I didn't have to claim under the warranty (£100 excess) for it. It just got fixed and I didn't pay a penny, if it was done under the warranty I would have paid the £100.

There's lots of info on the TT forum about it.

Star Performance based in Kirkcaldy carried out a 'carbon-clean' on my RS4 and did a really good job of it!
Jim Curley does some great work on Audi vehicles.
