How reliable are these engines?
Is 140,000 miles going to make it a moneypit?

As long as its been serviced, and looked after, should be fine, thats not high miles on that engine.

6/9A in those? KE Jet fuel injection?

Fundamentally the engine's fairly tough but that's a 25 year old car.

Any car of that age will always need regular maintenance, niggles sorting, and discontinued parts sourcing. Unless you're handy on the spanner and keen to get your hands dirty it might not be absolutely the best bet to rely on to get you to work every day.

The Classic Audi forum and Facebook page will become your bible.

I would say that with regular maintainence it would outlive contemporary audis.
