New wheels for cupra

I've recently had both front tyres damaged as the roads where i live are littered with potholes at the moment. My cupra 300 came with 235/35/19's and they just can't cope with the shoddy tarmac. Would a set of VAG 18's fit over the brakes ok? I've seen some second hand 245/40/18's for sale and thinking they'd be a little more forgiving?
Any advice would be welcome.
