Picked up my lease Scirocco R on Saturday.

Got a relatively cheap lease deal so thought why not! Having cancelled orders on a MK7.5 Golf GTI and Leon Cupra 300 in 2017 due to continual delays I was getting desperate, however Im so glad that I did.

Reminds me of my remapped mk5 Golf GTI Pirelli, though with a nicer cabin with low roof and pillarless doors.

I know the scirocco gets a lot of stick now "based on mk5, needs 4wd, doesn't have EA888 engine" etc etc but you know what? I dont care and I dont think it detracts from what is still a lovely car to look at, sit in and drive. The DCC is great, it lives in comfort mode and is rather smooth.

I'll post a pic when i get home.

It does like a drink though!!

Know a couple folks with one. They're good cars. Respond well to remaps and aftermarket exhaust systems.

They're lovely cars. I was baffled at all the hatred for them on the Lease Thread recently, especially given the great deals being offered on them! The Leon Cupra is probably the better car overall, but the Scirocco's look so much nicer IMO and have a great road presence too.

I really miss my first one, which is why i've jumped on one of the cheap leases for them and ordered a 2.0 TSI GT DSG in Pure White. Very much looking forward to the engine and gearbox combo for sure, aswell as the spec. Get some pics up when you can. Would love an R biggrin

Run out lease deal is very tempting but I don't have a space to keep another car and I don't exactly need one. But thought about getting another mk3. In 2008/2009 it was quite expensive to get R version but later on VW was giving them away on lease deals. It's all about timing and mine was bad. Paid far too much for 2.0TSI in 2009 and lost a lot on depreciation but still remember excitement when getting it. Shame the model was abandoned by VW.

Cracking cars...

I had a 2.0 TSI in '08 - quite an early car so not many around and it literally used to stop traffic. Its the everyday car I kept longest putting 50k miles on it. According to the MOT history its still going strong at well over 114k miles.

Any one know where S100 ROC is now?

Haha, I did 40K miles in mine and it was also the longest I kept the car (except Scirocco mk2 classic). It went up to Scotland and as far I can see, it's only doing 5K miles per year and it's only at 60K miles while being almost 10 years old.

The car was Viper Green so at the beginning I had people checking it out, taking pictures while driving or taking pictures with the car. Fun times.

I love Viper Green, it's one of my favourite colours ever. It's a shame they discontinued it. In fact, it's a real shame that they're discontinuing the Scirocco full-stop.

I've always wanted one but somehow never had the opportunity in the past 10-years, in which time I've owned 8 other similarly sized VAG cars hehe

Enjoy thumbup

Is that Urano Grey?
If so, it's a lot lighter looking than I imagined.

Don't get me wrong - it still looks pretty damn good to me.

Yeah that's right, urano grey. It seems really affected by light, more than most cars, in the evenings it looks almost black.

Glad you're enjoying it - I suspect a lot of the 'hate' was more from people who've never driven one and just look at the spec and see and old base.

My 7.5 Golf R Estate is nice enough, but not once has it felt as enjoyable to drive as my 2003 design Mazda RX8! And my 1969 Marcos has a magic to it that is irreplaceable!

Personally, I've never really felt the Scirocco works as a design - It looks like a cut-n-shut to me - A coupe front end and a slammed Golf at the back welded together at the B-pillar!

At least I have a purely subjective reason for not wanting one! biggrin

I think the Scirocco is a really great looking car, but it really lags behind the Golf on tech now, which is a great shame.

If they could update the underpinnings to Golf Mk7.5 GTi or R, then I would have one like a shot.

Agree 100%! I’d love it if they brought out a new one and would be all over it. But sadly sounds like a replacement isn’t planned frown

VW seem to be concentrating on crossovers at the moment. Nearly all 3dr models are being dropped including this, the Beetle, 3dr Polo, Ibiza, A1 and A3. All that’s left really is the TT and Leon SC which is a great shame.

I'm genuinely curious, what tech doesn't it have?

Adaptive Cruise Control for a start, which is a showstopper for me as I use it so much.
