Partner got into a minor accident last night, skidded on a slip road and bumped the kerb. Car couldn’t move and some lovely policemen stopped and called breakdown services for us for the car to be towed to a safe place for the night.

Question is, I would like to get it repaired at Audi but would they provide a courtesy car for the duration of the repair? Need to be in for work still and don’t wanna go through insurance for courtesy car as excess is high and I don’t think the bill would be higher than the excess.

As pictured above, that’s the front right tire that seems to have collapsed. The car is now resting on the wheel itself.

Any indication of cost would be appreciated as well.

Thanks.

I’m guessing you have knackered the suspension judging how it’s resting on the wheel - I would expect that at audi prices to be well over a grand.

Suspension unit with spring and shock - a few hundred, a few hundred for other suspension bits, a wheel I bet retails at a good few hundred quid then labour, tyre etc - id consider just taking the hit on insurance.

Additionally Audi wouldn’t necessarily be able to get you in quickly (there is often several week wait for a courtesy car). You will likely also have to pay 12-15 quid a day insurance, and if police arranged for recovery you will be billed for that.

And because there is a police record of the incident you would be on dodgy ground if you then didn’t inform/declare on your insurance if anything else happened.

Mate I am sorry that your car has had a prang, I think you will need to get to a garage so they can access what needs to be done to fix it.
As you know things may not be that bad but be thankful it was not worse.

Police did say that the recovery would be at their expense so not too worried about that.

Would I still need to inform insurance if I do not want to make a claim and no one else was involved in the incident?

Only if you can guarantee they will never find out about it either from the police, a passer by, Yoda, or your wife inadvertently mentioning it.

If no one else involved then the Insurance company is not going to care if u get it repaired yourself are they - why would they ?
This is on the assumption you get it repaired properly obviously !
Independent garages often have courtesy cars too although as others have said I doubt you will get one immediately.

It's going to be an expensive bump, I'm afraid to say.

The cost of an OEM wheel from Audi or TPS is eye-watering. I would expect that wheel alone to cost circa £800 so near enough a grand by the time you add the tyre. It may be possible to have the wheel refurbished.

You're probably looking at another grand in suspension bits, labour and an alignment.

As said, don't mention it to the insurance company if you are paying out of your own pocket.

I'd just chuck it at the insurance company to sort. That definitely won't be a cheap repair unfortunately frown

You should get a courtesy car or a hire car if they've ran out

On the topic of insurance, is there a period I have to notify them by? Happened yesterday night, was gonna wait on a quote from Audi before deciding

There is no point in having insurance (aside from the legal minimum requirement of course) if you're afraid to use it as you don't want to pay the excess. I would simply get it to an approved repairer and let the insurance company deal with it. It's highly likely that Audi will take it to its local approved repairer.
