Steering lock question - 18 plate passat GT

Hi,

took delivery of my new 18 plate passat estate today, took it for a drive and turned the engine off and found it doesnt lock the wheel when you move it.

My previous car a 65 plate Polo had this feature so surely this should be on the Passat too.

Is this not a standard feature of new cars?

Its a keyless start so maybe its automatic once im away from the car?

When you hit the start/stop switch, it's the same as not turning the key to turn an engine off but not removing the key from the ignition barrel. The engine goes off but the wheel won't lock.

Once the car is locked, it will lock the steering as well.

What trim did you go for? Iv got GT trim and its very very nice. Pretty happy with the car.

I was debating GT but went R Line as I’m a sucker for the premium LED’s and the cost to upgrade the GT to the premiums meant the same purchase price after all my discounts. I would prefer the GT rear lights though.

Also added the dynamic light assist.

I had a Passat for 3 months last year and am looking forward to being lazy again with ACC, DSG and DLA (don’t you just love acronyms?) for my 30k a year.

If it has start/stop button. The electronic steering lock will come on when you open the drivers door. you'll hear a noise and then can move the wheel into the lock
