Help with location of Skoda Octavia MK1 relays
Discussion
I'm trying to help my son remotely with his Skoda Octavia MK 1.
I think that either the thermo sensor in the radiator is faulty - or - the fan relay has shorted out.
The radiator fan is running all the time (even with key off - it drained the battery) - even removing the three fuses (1x fan, 2x ABS) on top of the battery doesn't stop it!
Looking online, it would seem that the relays are behind the lower dashboard trim - however I can't seem to work out if it's driver's side or passenger side. (car is right hand drive).
Can anyone tell me which side the relays are on, and what is required to get to them?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT:
Further research suggests that this is the culprit: (and it's located on / in the fan)

Hello. Sorry to resurrect an old post... Did you manage to fix the problem by replacing the fan control unit? I have the same issue on my venerable '99 Mk1 Octavia.
Thanks
Charlie
Yes, I was lucky to find a new old stock unit from a dealer on Ebay. Thanks
Charlie
Be warned - the aftermarket Chinese ones don't work properly!!
We fitted one, and had all sorts of weird problems.
Thanks ever so much, Tony.
I don't suppose you have any advice on the part number do you? I know it's some variant of 1J0 919 506 but which letter is has on the end I have been unable to find. Mine is a '99 estate with aircon and the 20v AGN 1.8 engine. I thought I'd figured it out when I found something about VINs below a certain number... but even then it seems to leave me with two variants.
I think I'm going to have to take it out before I can order a new one which is a pain.
Thanks again
Charlie
